The Panel is Split

Well, it looks like there are three distinct groups in the Burgh Mom universe. There are the moms who want to ditch their kids and spouses for a lovely time out on the town and there are the moms who don't know how to be separated from their kids and spouses for a lovely night out on the town. Then there are three of you that are like "eh, I could take 'em or leave 'em."

So.

That brings me to proposition #1. How about we do both? We could do a dinner out somewhere in the short term and plan a big shindig with all the families later in the summer (I'm thinking picnic at a park or a Zoo day or something). If somebody can't make it to one event, hopefully they'll be able to make it to the other.

Let's start with planning dinner out on the town. How about Friday, May 23? And, where should we go? Be selfish with your restaurant suggestions. Think of somewhere that you like a lot and that's sort of convenient for you. There's quite a few of you that I suspect live in each other's back yards, but you don't know it. Do consider that we are coming from all over the place, so somewhere that is near a highway is preferable to somewhere deep in the 'burbs.

Oh, and please spread the word. I know for a fact that I'm missing some people, but my brain is fried from sleep deprivation and can't figure out who.

If it's just me, that's a great date. Sam is off and could keep the kids while I head out to the city. I'll eat anywhere so I have no suggestions. But I like the idea of having it near a highway because me+traffic=disaster.

Even though I know it's not greatest restaurant on planet Earth, I want to throw Hard Rock out there. It's accessible, they take reservations, and Station Square is about as central as you can get.

That date sounds good to me, though I never quite know when the last minute crap will pop up.

I'm all for doing both - except the bring the husband part - I'll be leaving him at home.

No, no Hard Rock. I don't want to spend $10 on a burger unless it's a bison burger at the Church Brew Works.

Can us who are moms but don't mom blog join the fun?

Hey, I'm friends with Dr. Baker the head of the zoo. She barrel races with me.

I'm a no kids.. just because my kids are older... your kids won't bother me.

Hubby's -- that works to.. I'm mostly flexible! lol

Station Square works for me too!

Isn't the parking sucky in Station Square? Or is that just me?

I love the idea of doing both: one with and one without kids. It's definitely hard for me to leave my little one, as he's only 8 months old, but I should be able to make it work for a dinner out!

Station Square sounds good, although PERSONALLY I'm not a huge fan of Hard Rock. What about some place on the Waterfront? There are lots of restaurants there, and plenty of parking. TGIFridays, UNO, Bravo, Rock Bottom, Dave and Busters...etc.

wah! I have tickets to the X concert that night. I may be able to have a drink with everyone, but I will be rocking out at the Rex.

maybe I better look at the comments and see what other people are saying. I like the idea of the South Side, because I'm heading that way anyway.

okay, comment #2:

yes, let's do both events, definitely.

As far as May 23: as I said, I have a concert to attend, so it's unlikely I will be able to meet you sans family unless you settle on a South Side location. Some suggestions that are purely local in flavor: Kassab's (mediteranian [sic] food, BYOB), Dish, Double Wide Grill. Also, the SouthSide Works are pretty good. Parking in general on the South Side is tough, I will admit (having been a resident there for ages before moving to the 'burbs).

Okay, that's my 2 cents. I will look forward to see what is decided.

ciao,
rpm

Two events is a great compromise. We LOVE the zoo, and it's close to home for us.

May 23 works for me, especially if my daughter has dropped the bedtime nursing...I can dream, can't I?

Waterfront is really, really easy for me, but I'll be coming from Point Breeze so Station Square or South Side are fine too. I've been wanting to check out Double Wide, and we're big fans of Piper's Pub. (My husband is from England and their food and beverages pass muster with him. I like it even better now that they are smoke free.)

I am really looking forward to this. If any others in the east end want to carpool, let me know. Until the aforementioned daughter is weaned, I'm a good choice for designated driver.

Waterfront, Southside, Station Square all sound great to me. Hey, it will just be nice to have night out. I don't really care where!

I'll have to get my parents to babysit for the 23rd, but that shouldn't be a problem. I'm up for driving anywhere...as long as I don't have to parallel park on the street (or in a parking lot, for that matter). I say a place with lots of parking. Maybe Station Square? Or is there somewhere on the North shore (that doesn't cost a fortune, or is a dive), as long as the Pirates aren't playing?

I would love to go, but am not quite sure yet. I have almost a 2 hr drive into downtown, so it would be a long drive home at night. Now a daytime, bring the kids get together would definitely be more doable.

But please keep me updated on any plans so I can keep mulling it over.

If you want me to be selfish about location preference for a Friday evening dinner thing, anything near Wexford/Cranberry would be great for me. But I know that would probably not be convenient for most. Just my 2 cents!

Just wanted to pop in to see how the plans were going. I am up for anything as long as I know at least a week in advance so I can get off of work!

You guys tell me the time and place and I'll try my hardest to make sure I'm there!
